Responsibilities:

3. Account reconciliation: Balance cash registers at the beginning and end of shifts, reconcile discrepancies, and ensure that all transactions are accounted for. Report any discrepancies or issues to the appropriate supervisor.
4. Customer service: Interact with guests in a friendly and professional manner, answering their inquiries, addressing concerns, and providing assistance as needed. Maintain a customer-focused approach to enhance guest satisfaction.
5. Record-keeping: Maintain accurate records of financial transactions, including sales, refunds, voids, and discounts. Prepare daily reports and submit them to the management or accounting department.
6. Cash management: Safeguard cash and adhere to proper cash-handling procedures to minimize the risk of theft or errors. Follow the hotel’s policies regarding cash handling and security protocols.
7. Collaborate with other departments: Coordinate with various departments, such as the front desk, restaurant, and housekeeping, to ensure smooth operations and accurate billing. Communicate effectively to resolve any discrepancies or issues related to guest charges.
Qualifications:
1. Education: CPA 2 is required. Additional education in hospitality management an added advantage.
2. Math and computer skills: Proficiency in basic mathematics is crucial for accurate calculations and handling cash. Familiarity with computerized point-of-sale (POS) systems or billing software is also beneficial.
3. Attention to detail: Cashiers need to have a keen eye for detail to ensure accurate transactions and avoid mistakes. Attention to detail is essential when handling cash, reconciling accounts, and preparing invoices.
4. Communication skills: Good communication skills are important to interact with guests effectively, understand their needs, and provide excellent customer service. Clear communication with other hotel staff is also necessary to address any issues or discrepancies promptly.
5. Integrity and honesty: Cashiers handle money and are entrusted with financial transactions. They should demonstrate integrity, honesty, and a strong sense of responsibility to maintain the trust of both the hotel and its guests.
6. Multitasking and time management: Cashiers often face a high volume of transactions and need to multitask efficiently. Time management skills help ensure timely processing of payments and minimize wait times for guests.
7. Language skills: Proficiency in English and/or Swahili, the official languages of Kenya, is typically required for effective communication with guests and colleagues.
