ACCOUNTANT – USAID DAWA ZA UBORA PROJECT

MEDS has entered into a Contract with USAID Kenya and East Africa named USAID Dawa za Ubora. The purpose of the contract is to obtain efficient, reliable and accountable supply chain management services for the procurement, warehousing, and distribution of health commodities for HIV, Malaria, Tuberculosis, Maternal/Neonatal/Child Health (MNCH) and Global Health Security (GHS) activities for patients across all 47 Counties in Kenya for adequate care, treatment and prevention for communicable diseases and other health needs. MEDS seeks to recruit an Accountant for this Project.

The position will report to the Senior Accountant and will be charged with the responsibility to:

i. Prepare project budgets in compliance with USAID Dawa Za Ubora Contract, USG Guidelines.
ii. Develop routine and ad hoc status reports, budget updates for different activities to ensure the regular flow of accurate and relevant financial information for enhanced project management and planning.
iii. Maintain accurate accounting framework for project stocks and up to date records that represent a true fair view of project stock value.
iv. Prepare project suppliers’ payment within credit period and maintain good supplier relationships.
v. Prepare tax compliance reports and seek tax exemptions for all project expenditure.
vi. Monitor disbursement/receipt schedules, alert relevant project staff of due payments/ liquidations, and maintain appropriate communication and follow-up to facilitate timeliness of financial resource management and compliance with set guidelines.
vii. Project cash flow management: Ensure project bank Accounts are timely funded with due compliance to donor advance management, reimbursement management and third-party payment management guidelines.
viii. Maintain accurate Dawa Za Ubora project assets/ inventory register
ix. Prepare project Monthly and quarterly financial statements and reports to reflect project performance and facilitate decision-making by Project Management team and the donor.
x. Prepare Project Audit schedules and project financial statements, coordinate review by compliance and Audit teams of audit findings and administrative support to teams in the implementation of the recommendations.
xi. Participate in the development of project work plans and budgets.

Candidate Profile:
i. Degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a business-related course with CPA(K) Certification
ii. Professional Qualifications/Membership in professional bodies
iii. Associate ICPAK Member, Registered member of ICPAK is an added advantage
iv. At least 5 years’ experience in a busy accounting environment
v. Prior accounting experience in a USG-funded project is mandatory

APHRC Hiring Qualitative and Quantitative Field Interviewers
The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is an African-led, Africa-based and Africa-oriented international research institute committed to conducting high quality and policy-relevant multidisciplinary research. Our researchers address critical development issues and challenges facing sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) in areas such as education, population, health, aging, urbanization, and wellbeing. Our goal is to generate evidence for meaningful action, engage with policymakers in the region to disseminate our research findings, influence policy decisions, and improve the quality of life in Africa.

Rationale and Purpose of the Assignment

APHRC is accepting applications for both Qualitative and Quantitative Field Interviewers for its AfriFOODlinks Project. The project will be carrying out a mixed methods cross-sectional study involving collection of both quantitative and qualitative data in Kisumu in the course of October and November 2023. The main aim is to improve food environments for urban consumers, schools, and food retailers in Kisumu through real-world experimentation, as urban food environments are a critical arena for improving nutrition and reducing environmental impact in African cities.

Data collection purpose

To collect high-quality data that addresses research questions ethically and within stipulated period.
Scope of the work

Children aged 3-5 years and their caregivers, community members and leaders, community organized groups, food vendors, County officials, Public health officers, 4K club school patrons, and agricultural extension officers will be the data collection’s participants. The data will be gathered in Kisumu in Nyalenda and Manyatta.

Anticipated Timeline

The proposed data collection is scheduled to begin in mid-October and end in mid-November 2023.

QUALITATIVE FIELD INTERVIEWERS

Duties and responsibilities:

Recruitment of participants using pre-defined eligibility criteria.
Obtain and document informed consent/assent from the study participants prior to the interviews.
Moderate/ facilitate qualitative interviews and stakeholder workshops with various people at the national, subnational, community, market and school level.
Take notes and compile comprehensive qualitative interview debriefing notes.
Prepare data collection progress report and updates.
Perform other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor and project manager.
Minimum qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Food and Nutrition, Social Sciences or Health related fields.
Have proven experience and skills in qualitative research methods (conducting FGDs, IDIs and/or KIIs).
Ability to facilitate and moderate group discussions in English and Swahili.
Have experience in note taking during qualitative interviews.
Have proven experience in qualitative data collection in low-income settings.
Have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Residents of Nyalenda or Manyatta (or areas close to the sites) will have an added advantage.
Be available to work full time on the project for the duration of the study.
QUANTITATIVE FIELD INTERVIEWERS

Duties and responsibilities:

Identify and recruit participants based on pre-defined eligibility criteria.
Conduct quantitative data collection in the assigned study sites.
Complete, edit and submit all assigned interviews for crosschecking and verification by the team leader on a daily basis.
Review the collected data to ensure all questions are complete prior to online submission.
Follow-up with participants for missing responses or correct any inaccurate responses.
Ensure the safety of all assigned study tools and equipment.
Fill in daily progress reports/timesheets.
Participate in weekly team meetings.
Assist the research team in other project-related activities.
Any other related activity assigned by the supervisor, project manager and principal investigator.
Minimum qualifications

Have completed secondary education and possess a minimum grade C Plain in KCSE.
Have proven experience in quantitative data collection in low-income settings.
Experience in public health and or nutrition surveys.
Proficient in Microsoft office applications.
Have experience in using electronic data capture methods like digital recorders and survey CTO or open data kit (ODK).
Preferably a resident of Nyalenda or Manyatta the study sites or has knowledge of the study sites.
Fluent in English and Kiswahili (verbal and written).
Be prepared to work full time on the project for the duration of the study.

Be prepared to work full time on the project for the duration of the data collection.
Flexible and available to work odd hours (when necessary), under minimal supervision.
